expectant: to look forward to; regard as likely to happen; anticipate the occurance of the coming of [something.]
For those of us in Colorado with CCC we’re looking forward to a seven day conference with speakers like Francis Chan and bands like David Crowder. Many of us have traveled long distances, raised money, left kids with grandma in order to attend. We’re expectant. It’s Crusade’s 60th anniversary – we can expect a look back at our rich history and a visionary exhortation for the future.
In the midst, a friend of mine (who’s here), expects to hear from her doctor today. Will the biopsy reveal cancer? Another anticipates the coming of her second child – will he be healthy? Another woman stands vigil over her husband who will soon step from the now into eternity.
The dried dirt and filmy grime on the window shows up the most in the shadows of the day. Sometimes it’s so hard to see past the smear. This morning I can’t seem to shake the verses that remind me of our great hope – the One that will never disappoint, the One that is sure and steadfast. He’s an anchor for our soul. Scripture promises one day “everything sad will come untrue” because we rest, assured that Jesus is coming back.
So in the moment, the now, we cling to Him with all our might. We pray for hearts to receive what He has for us, we intercede for our dear friends and family, we wrestle through the trials, we hold onto the promises of scripture for dear-life, and press on toward the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Expectant.
