It was another scorching hot day, cooled by intervals of grey, billowy thunderclouds bellowing through town threatening a downpour. Evening was ushered in by a brilliant sunset. Now it’s late and finally cool enough to throw open the (dirty) windows. It just started to rain, and wafts of that sweet smell of water meeting the earth curl through my bedroom’s screen.
Drops from heaven awaken the scent of dirt, green grass, and warm sidewalks. I love the smell of summer.
As I crawled into bed I took a long, deep breath. If right now smells so comfortable and awakens such vivid pictures of June, what aromatic delights await us in the not yet?
